The two common types of home solar systems, explained simply.
Your panels connect to the TNPDCL grid through a net meter, with no batteries. During the day your home uses solar power first. Any extra power goes to the grid and is adjusted against your bill.
A hybrid system is also connected to the grid, but adds batteries. Extra solar power charges the batteries, so your essential lights and fans keep running during a power cut.
If power cuts are rare in your area, on-grid is usually the simpler and cheaper choice. If you face frequent cuts, a hybrid system may suit you better. We will help you decide during the site survey.
Subsidy
The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana subsidy for homes is paid by the central government directly to your bank account after commissioning.

Many banks offer loans for home rooftop solar, including under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, so you can pay in monthly instalments instead of all at once. Interest rates and repayment periods depend on the lender and your eligibility.

After installation
What protects your system for the long run.
Panels come with the manufacturer's product warranty and a long-term performance warranty. Exact terms depend on the brand and model, and are listed in your quote.
The inverter carries its own manufacturer warranty. Terms vary by brand and model, and we share them before you decide.
Systems installed under PM Surya Ghar include maintenance support from the installing vendor for the period set by the scheme. After that, you can choose an annual maintenance contract (AMC) for cleaning, health checks and quick repairs.
Simple habit: rinse the panels with plain water regularly, especially in dusty months, to keep generation up.
Net metering

Register on the PM Surya Ghar portal using your TNPDCL consumer number and apply for rooftop solar.
TNPDCL checks your connection and approves the rooftop solar installation.
An empanelled vendor installs the system using DCR/ALMM-listed solar panels.
TNPDCL installs the net meter and inspects the system.
The system is commissioned and starts sending extra power to the grid.
The central subsidy is paid through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) to your bank account.
How long does it take? Typically several weeks; depends on TNPDCL.
Plan for about 80–100 sq ft of shadow-free roof for every kW. For example, a 3 kW system needs roughly 240–300 sq ft. We check the exact space and shading during the site survey.
An on-grid system switches off during a power cut, for the safety of TNPDCL line workers. If you need backup, a hybrid system with batteries keeps essential loads running.
